Building Our Relationship to Revelation: A contemplative exploration of Sefirat Ha'Omer

Sefirat Ha'Omer is an ancient practice of meaningfully counting each day in preparation for receiving the Torah anew. In this community gathering we will use contemplative Jewish practices to support us in being present in these uncertain times. We will focus on how balance and groundedness can inspire us to make each moment count. All are welcome to this three hour zoom-based mini Jewish mindfulness retreat, regardless of meditation experience.

Teacher bios:

C. Tova Markenson builds collaborative communities of diverse learners where text study is inseparable from embodied practice. As a mindfulness meditation teacher in Chicago and nationally, she loves exploring the mystery of the present moment with individuals and groups. Tova is currently working on a book project entitled “A Good Heart,” which offers contemplative practices to support the journey towards collective freedom. She completed the Institute for Jewish Spirituality’s Jewish Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training in 2019 and expects to receive her PhD from Northwestern University in the spring of 2020.

Dr. Zvi Bellin is an Associate Professor of Holistic Counseling Psychology, and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor specializing in meaning-centered psychotherapy, infused with narrative and mindfulness therapies. Zvi began his mindfulness practices in 2000 at Elat Chayyim: Center for Jewish Renewal, and has remained a committed practitioner through retreats and daily practice. Since 2010, through his work with Moishe House, Zvi has taught mindfulness in Jewish communities all over the world. Zvi teaches with attention to the historic harm of People of Color, LGBTQI folks, people differently abled, and other marginalized identity markers. Inspired by Western-Buddhist and Jewish teachers, Zvi practices and teaches a blend of contemplative practices that are infused with compassion, gentle witnessing, and safety.
